I became a lawyer out of a strong, lifelong desire to help people solve their legal problems in a way that does not bankrupt their futures, and that empowers them to succeed in and understand what can be a complex, confusing, and overwhelming judicial system.
I believe that it is important for my clients to feel that they are part of the solution, not part of the problem. I am committed to helping my clients be successful and to understanding what is happening to them and why. As a team, you and I can solve your Family Law problems to enable you to get on with your new life.
The amount of money you pay a lawyer is not necessarily equivalent to the quality of legal services you receive. Since 2001, I have devoted my practice to helping people who are going through the painful experience of separation, divorce, custody, child and spousal support, parenting time issues, and restraining and stalking orders, but who cannot - or do not want to - pay hundreds of dollars an hour for legal services.
Experience, compassion and maturity matter. Unlike many areas of law, Family Law calls for an attorney who is compassionate, personable, responsive, and has life experiences which help the attorney understand what the client is going through. How can someone help you if they do not have the life and professional experiences that enable them to know and understand how helpless the painful family matter makes you feel?
Your rights as a client. As a client you have the right to expect your attorney not just to know the law but to know who you are as a unique and valuable person. You have the right to expect that your attorney will respond promptly to your questions, listen to your ideas, honor your goals, have compassion for your pain, and listen to your fears about the future. You have the right to expect your attorney to be accessible to you, promptly and personally return your phone calls, and base fees and retainers on your ability to pay. You have the right to speak to your attorney and not be handled by another staff member.
As a team, we will work together to solve your problem. When you walk into the courtroom or the settlement conference, you will have the assurance that you are not alone; that you know what to expect; and that you and your attorney are fully prepared. The amount of money you pay an attorney does not guarantee you will have these things. Your choice of an attorney does.
Education: I attended the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Oregon, and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Oregon Law School in 2001.
